International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

WHAT IS IELTS:

It is of the acronym International English Language Testing System,It is designed to assess the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication. It is not considered suitable for candidates under 16 years old. Many academic institutions, employers and immigration authorities require you to have a certain IELTS score before your application is accepted.

HOW IT WORKS

The IELTS test is necessary only if you want to work, study or emigrate abroad and an IELTS score is required either by the organization you are going to or the immigration authorities. Most people take the IELTS test as a prerequisite for work or admission into colleges and universities where English is used or required.



IELTS LEGIBILITY:

IELTS is jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL), British Council and IDP Education Australia. Thus the result is recognized by universities and employers in many countries.



IELTS TEST STRUCTURE:

Parts of the IELTS test, namely the reading and writing modules differ, depending on whether you are taking the Academic or General Training version. Academic is for those wanting to study abroad while General Training is aimed at those wishing to emigrate or work abroad.

  • The Academic IELTS exam is the more advanced test.
    This version is generally used to determine whether candidates are qualified to enroll in undergraduate and graduate academic programs where English is the medium of instruction.
  • The General IELTS exam is the simpler test
    It focuses on basic survival skills in social and educational contexts. It is generally requested for candidates applying for immigration, working in certain professions, or studying at a non-degree level.


IELTS ELIGIBILITY:

IELTS is recognized by universities and employers in many countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. It is also recognized by professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.

IELTS tests are administered at accredited Test Centres throughout the world – there are currently more than 500 Centres, in over 120 countries. In Nigeria it is done at British Council.

Register with us to know the available test dates. There are frequent dates, usually on Thursdays or Saturdays.

It may take up to 10 – 15 business days to mail the hard copy of IELTS results to individual mailing addresses.

Rest assured, there’s no passing or failing score. Score requirements are established by individual colleges and universities; check your selected schools to learn their required IELTS test scores. You will receive a score on each section (within a score band of 0-9) and a total score for the entire test after taking the average is within the range of 0 to 9.

Your scores will be posted online, usually within 13 days after the test date.

IELTS score not more 2 years are still valid, You should also be aware that IELTS recommends that your IELTS result is valid for up to 2 years and some organizations will only accept your result if it is more recent than that. So, don’t take the IELTS test just because it might be useful in the future.
